2013 Color Guard Auditions

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your interest in joining the American Fork High School Color Guard. We are planning on a 40-55 member color guard this year as we prepare for parades, field show, and BOA Grand Nationals.

Below you find information regarding auditions.

Dates for Auditions...
We will be holding our final audition on April 27th, 2013 from 8-12 noon. Registration will be in the band room at the high school, and auditions will be held in the north gym. For those at the junior high, we will be there the 24th and 25th (A1-A3 and B1-B3) in Mrs. Scott's class teaching a short dance class. If you can make it, we would love to have you join us on those days.

What to expect...
You do NOT need experience to be a member of the AFHS Color Guard. We will begin auditions with a stretch, across the floors, flag technique, and a short flag routine. Around 11 a.m. we will begin the audition process. You will NOT be auditioning alone. You will be in groups of at least 5.

What to wear...
Please come prepared in dance attire, or clothes that you can move easily in. NO jeans or sweats please. Dance pants and gym shorts are best.

What to prepare for...
We will teach you everything you need to know on the 27th. However, coming with a positive attitude is best. Also, dance experience is great - but not mandatory to audition.

If you have any questions, please contact Tiffany Miller at afcolorguard@gmail.com.

We look forward to seeing you on the 27th.

Important Info

Hello Members and Parents,

Below is A LOT of information - please make sure to look it over carefully and let me know if you have any questions.

I have attached to the documents tab the clean up assignments for Saturday after the competition. This is for ALL open and A guard members. Each of you is required to stay until everything is clean. PLEASE make sure you do this. If you don't, I am left by myself cleaning up - often until after midnight. (Last year, I was left cleaning the band room because it wasn't done.) Please help me out. I will have been there all morning and night. Everyone will need to check out with me before you leave and I will mark you off. Please do not throw away any signs - I have paid to have them laminated so that we can use them again next year.

Also attached is the food assignments (for open only). This is for the band dads and directors. Please make sure you do this as well. If you just can't, you need to let me know so I can ask an A guard member. Also, if you would like to switch with another member, that is fine - just make sure to tell Gretchen!

We will be setting up Friday night instead of Saturday morning (as I stated in my email earlier in the week). Captains are required to be there - but we could use more help. Please let me know if you can be there. We will start at 6pm. If we can get a lot of people to help, we can be done by 7 or 7:30. That means, call time for the open captains on Saturday is now noon.

The A and Open guard will be having one rehearsal during spring break. We know this is not ideal, but we can't go all week before championships with no rehearsal. Both groups will be rehearsing Thursday morning from 8-11am. We know that this is not a lot of rehearsal time, but we do want you to enjoy your spring break as well.

I have audition dates for summer and field 2013 (please remember you must be in summer and field to march in A or Open guard for 2014). The date is April 13th from 8-2pm. If you are auditioning for a weapon, we will be having those on April 12th from 3-6pm. (You will still need to be at the Saturday audition.)

Lastly, I know a lot of you are waiting for summer guard camp dates. I have been working with Pancho to try and figure these out. He is now working 2 jobs, so it is a little harder for him to get time off - especially so far in advance. We are going to try something a little different for this year. As of now, we will most likely be holding a weapon camp sometime the week of June 17-21. Then we will have a flag/weapon camp hopefully the week of July 29th. I apologize that this is all of the information I have right now. As soon as I know more, I will let you know.

Thank you for all you do.
Tiffany

February 2nd Show @ Northridge

Great show at Northridge. I think it was a great start to the season!

Farewell to Bailey

So, I realize this post is LONG over due. But I wanted to express my thanks to Bailey for EVERYTHING he did for me and our AF Guard program. He was such an amazing person. We will miss him so much. Here is a list of things Bailey did while at American Fork:

  • He worked at AF from December 2009-January 20113
  • Director of A Guard 2010 (with Cory) - "Dreams Do Come True" (http://youtu.be/GhowVA1Dbu4 )
  • Summer & Fall 2010 - 2011 Assistant Director
  • Director of A Guard 2011 - "Reality is Perspective" (http://youtu.be/y4_zJtZs1h8)
  • Assistant Director Winter 2012 - "Lake of the Divided Swans" (http://youtu.be/_7CMZWmtYnM)
  • Assistant Director Fall & Winter 2012 - 2013 (The Agency & The Giving Tree)
Here are the things that Bailey did for our program to make us grow. I am so thankful that we have gained these tools from him to continue to make us better:

  • Assisted in organizing, running, and teaching the students on a daily basis
  • Drove the advancement of the overall technical facility of the program
  • Brought a different perspective to the AF program regarding choreography and dance work/training
  • Worked to advance the skills and achievement level of all the participating students
  • Helped to ensure the program's advancement toward higher levels of competition and performance
We love you Bailey and miss you already. Good luck in your future adventures. Thanks for the adventures you gave us!
